Review: Move It! Shake It! MousekeDance It! Street Party

The Move It! Shake It! MousekeDance It! Street Party is a 2019 update to the previous dance party of a similar name. The original ran for just under 10 years after initially debuting in 2009. We were never big fins of the original version which was basically an excuse to blast current pop hits in the hub while Mickey and his pals waved at you from atop generic (designed to look like wrapped gifts) parade floats.

While the core of the experience remains pretty much the same in the new version, several small improvements have been made which creates a much better overall experience. The floats have been spruced up a bit, rare characters have been added and live singers replace the top 100 radio station playlist.

The street party takes place 3 times a day usually. It’s probably something you might stumble across rather than plan your day around. However if you really want to see it in its entirety, last minute spots along main street and the hub can be grabbed fairly easily.

Let’s take a closer look at what you can expect from the roughly 15 minute experience. Things start with the floats entering via Town Square and up Main Street USA towards the hub.

The cast members in the area bill this as a parade. I guess it technically is for the first couple minutes as the floats / performers enter, but its a stretch when compared to a typically Disney parade. Anyone looking for something comparable to Festival of Fantasy will be quite disappointed!

Clarabelle has been getting a lot of love the past few years which is fine by us!

The celebration is supposed to be in honor of Mickey’s (and Minnie’s though they like to leave her out of the marketing) 90th birthday! Both characters have their anniversary outfits on which are light and fun.

One of the most improved aspects of the update is the inclusion of some less common characters such as Clarabelle and Horace, The Three Caballeros and Max Goof.

As mentioned in our Gran Fiesta Tour post, anytime we get more 3 Caballeros at the Disney parks its a good thing!

Once the floats settle into the hub, guests are invited to move into the streets and dance with the performing cast members. This is obviously geared more towards children but that doesn’t stop us from getting our boogie on!

The live singers are such a huge improvement over the old soundtrack. Not only do they sound great, but the songs are much more well rounded covering a variety of hits over the past 6 or 7 decades. I’m sure the setlist probably varied by performance but you will likely know most of the songs being performed.

The songs are paced well, moving quickly from one to another. Most songs have an associated dance with them. If you don’t know the dance just try and follow along the best you can with the characters.

This goes on for about 15 minutes or so, then the floats make their exit via the same way they entered.

Overall, the update to this street party has converted us from grumpy “these kids and their music these days” detractors, to “this is kinda fun for what it is” minor fans. Don’t go in expecting anything of much substance and you shouldn’t be disappointed.
