Monsieur Paul Review

Today, we are going to take a look at one of the few in park “signature restaurants” of Walt Disney World. We recently had dinner at Monsieur Paul, located in the France Pavilion of World Showcase.


When it comes to in park dining, most restaurants don’t hold a candle to some of the finer options outside the parks at both Disney Springs or the resort hotels. Luckily, Monsieur Paul is one of the exceptions to this. The restaurant currently ranks #3 on our Top 11 Table Service Restaurants Inside the WDW Parks list.

In that post we wrote:

“The restaurant offers a romantic setting, wonderful service and fantastic food. If you time things right and request a table near the window, it can provide a great view of Illuminations as well.”


The menu’s pricing falls on the cheaper side of most signature restaurants, with most entrees in the $40 – $44 range. This makes it a fine choice when paying out of pocket for a signature quality meal. However, this also means that its one of the worst values for the Disney Dining Plan which uses 2 credits here. Unfortunately, the restaurant does not offer any discounts for AP holders or Tables in Wonderland either.


The restaurant offers a 4 course pre-fixe menu for $89 as well if you want to go that route. The pre-fixe option will give you a common starter for the table (it was a smoked salmon most recently), a choice of appetizer, entree and dessert. The entrees on the pre-fixe typically differ from the regular menu.


The only way you are going to make out particularly well with the pre-fixe menu if you were planning on ordering the oxtail broth appetizer along with an entree and dessert anyway. For $89, you could get the smoked salmon ($12), the Oxtail Broth Truffle Soup ($29), whichever entree you choose ($42) and dessert ($13). At a total value of $96, there is some slight savings to be had there. However, if you swap out the soup for any other appetizer and you will be losing money on the deal. The next highest priced appetizer is the $20 rainbow trout. If you order this your total value drops to $87, or $2 less than the cost of the meal. The pre-fixe also has a $30 upcharge on top of the 2 dining plan credits making it possibly one of the worst dining plan values in all of WDW.


With all that info out of the way, lets take a look at our recent meal and see if our positive words still hold up.

The entrance for Monsieur Paul behind Chefs De France, in the alley back by L’Artisan des Glaces. Just head past the fountains towards Impressions De France and hang a left as shown above.


Don’t hesitate to watch Impressions De France either before or after your meal either. Its fantastic and one of the most underrated attractions in all of WDW.


From the check in area of Monsieur Paul, you can see into the back side of Chefs De France. For those on a tighter budget, Chefs De France is an excellent options as well. The restaurant is vibrant, full of energy and serves up some really solid dishes.

Once your table is ready, you will be escorted up to the 2nd floor where Monsieur Paul is located. Its a pretty easy climb up the spiral staircase, however there is an elevator for any of those who need it.


One of the first things you’ll pass when entering the restaurant is this wine room (cellar?) which is kinda neat.




The restaurant offers elegant decor with romantic lighting and high quality dinnerware.


After placing your dinner orders, a server will arrive with a variety of bread service options.



We went with a standard baguette and this yummy cheese bread (as you know, we use real technical foodie terms here). Both of these were solid choices, served hot with a crispy outside and a fluffy inside.

For our entrees, we went with the Grilled Beef Tenderloin and the Roasted Berkshire Pork Chop. Before your meals arrive, a little mobile carving station is brought to your table.


It is a nice touch that the server will carve the meat table side for you.



And here is the finished product…


They give you the option to keep the bone or not. There is really no reason not to as you want to get as much value as you can out of the meal.


The pork was cooked perfectly and was simply delicious. The roasted potatoes and cabbage were both seasoned beautifully and added a nice crunch to plate. The pork au jus brought all the flavors together nicely. This dish is definitely a winner!


Because I was busy snapping photos of it, I elected not to have my filet of beef carved by the server. Its awkward enough as it is when a server asks me how my meal is and I’m still trying to find just that right angle to photograph it from and haven’t touched it yet. The last thing I wanted to do was have our server stuck there holding a knife waiting for me to finish up.


Once I finally dug into it, this filet did not disappoint! The meat was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the flavors were out of this world. A high quality piece of beef is delicious enough on its own but this sauce it was served with brought it to a whole other level. This is possibly the best filet I’ve had on property, with its only real rivals being The Boathouse or Yachtsman. I’d place it slightly above California Grill which is high praise.


The sides, a mix of roasted potatoes and brussels sprouts were good as well. The beef was definitely the all star here though.

For dessert, we ordered the Milk Chocolate Sphere: Chocolate almond cake, praline and chocolate cream, light hazelnut biscuit with chocolate ice cream, warm chocolate, and Cognac sauce. 


I wish I had taken a video of this as it was really neat watching the dessert transform as the chocolate is poured over top of it. Here its kind of seen mid transformation. The dessert basically caves in on itself. The result is an amazing combination of flavors and texture. All the flavors work wonderfully together and the biscuit add a nice crunch to the bite. This is one of the better desserts we’ve had on Disney property.


All in all, we can’t recommend Monsieur Paul enough. Being a signature restaurant (that doesn’t offer any discounts) its on the pricey side, however you will be hard pressed to find a better meal in a nicer atmosphere inside the Disney parks. The food, atmosphere and service are all top notch. We will definitely be returning again soon! Next time we will book a later meal time in hopes of catching a nice elevated view of Illuminations.
