Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration is the castle stage show performed exclusively at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Much like the wonderful Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, this stage show is absolutely fantastic.
It features tons of great characters, excellent choreography and has an excellent soundtrack. The show begins with the ensemble performing “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”. All of the performers are talented dancers and its a nice introduction to the show.
Things really get going once the characters hit the stage though.
Their big first number is the much maligned “Text Me Merry Christmas”. I admit I did not like this when it first debuted a few years ago, but it has grown on me. It still seems out of place and a bit forced, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say it super catchy.
Its really only part of the song anyway as the opener switches over to Kylie Minogue’s “Christmas Isn’t Christmas til You Get Here” about half way through. Between Donald’s grand entrance and some excellent dancing by the ensemble, this part has actually become a highlight of the show for me.
Unlike the Hocus Pocus show at the Halloween party, there isn’t much of a story line to Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration. Luckily, there isn’t really a need for one. The show is basically various characters showing up for some show stopping musical numbers. The pace never slows down and the show is pure fun for its entire 20+ minute duration.
Clarabelle hits the stage next for a powerhouse performance of Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You”. I’m admittedly a little burned out on this song in general, but its still great here thanks to the sheer star power of the Diva of Dairy.
Not to mention the awesome reindeer backup dancers.
I seriously get a kick out of their costumes.
The show is hosted by two talented singers, one male and one female, both of which do a fine, if not slightly forgettable, job in their roles.
It’s no fault of their own, but they are pretty bland compared to all the other exciting things going on around them throughout the show. They certainly aren’t the Sanderson sisters from the Halloween show, but really, who is?
Soon, the Toy Story gang arrives for a bit of a holiday hoedown. The number features a fun mash up of “Have a Holly Jolly Christmas” and “Christmas Time’s A’Coming” with a Jessie yodel solo thrown in for good measure.
Up next, we get a fun rare character appearance from Panchito Pistoles and Jose Carioca, who along with Donald, make up the The Caballeros.
In the photo above, Panchito is in the center with Jose on the right. After a verse of “Deck The Halls” in Spanish, the song quickly shifts into a rocking version of Feliz Navidad with Panchito “shredding” on electric guitar.
The background dancers seem really stoked by it!
At this time, the show starts to set up for its big finish, much like all the villains arriving for the end of the Hocus Pocus show. Here however, we get several great characters from Fantasyland. We get Chip, Dale, Peter Pan, Wendy, Jiminy Cricket, Pinocchio, Snow White, Dopey, Alice, the White Rabbit!
In a typical Donald move, he gets mad at all the loud ringing of the Christmas bells. This allows a brief pause in the action for Mickey and Minnie to be called off stage to get ready for their big finale.
The Fantasyland gang finishes up their song and Mickey and Minnie soon make their grand re-entrance to the stage. They arrive in a sleigh, dressed like Santa and Mrs Claus, and led in by the reindeer (sans their awesome outfits from earlier).
The final number is perhaps the biggest, and most welcome surprise of the show. Mickey leads the group in a performance of “It Feels Like Christmas” from the criminally underrated Muppet Christmas Carol film. It’s my favorite Christmas movie and seeing it represented here is a real treat.
Overall, this show is one of my very favorite things, not just at MVMCP, but in all of Walt Disney World entertainment. I attended 2 parties within the same week and I happily watched this show 4 times. It’s that good.
As far as viewing tips go, its typically easy to grab a spot somewhere near the stage within 10 minutes of showtime. Keep in my mind however, it will be super crowded in the area and getting in and out can be a bit of a headache. The sky high attendance at the holiday parties this year certainly doesn’t help.
Its also not a bad idea to watch this a little further back. Your instincts are going to tell you to try and get as close to the stage as possible, but that has some possible drawbacks. The risk for shoulder kids and obnoxious phone / ipad recording goes up greatly the closer you are to the stage.
I recommend getting a spot right in front of the Partners statue if possible.
Whatever you do, don’t miss this wonderful show!
Here is the best video I could find online of the show. I did not film it. It is from Inside the Magic’s youtube page.
