One of our favorite non Disney trips we have taken was to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
While we loved the gorgeous beaches and great dining options, the highlight of our trip was taking a ride up to Old San Juan.
Old San Juan was a fascinating place. It very much had a Pirates of the Caribbean feel, which I suppose makes sense. After all, its in the Caribbean and it is home to some of the oldest fortresses and citadels of the Caribbean Sea.
While we were there, we visited Castillo San Cristóbal, which was the oldest and largest fortress built by Spain in the New World. It was really neat to walk around the massive fort and take in all the history which had occurred there. It has been beautifully preserved and we could not recommend it enough.
Other than that, the whole city just had a really cool historic feeling to it. Here is a little photo tour from our day in Old San Juan.
Note: All photos were taken with a Sony RX 100, which is my top recommendation (or a more recent rx model) for the top point and shoot camera on the market. It worked beautifully for this trip as we were traveling light and I opted not to bring all my DSLR gear. That being said, the most recent Iphone cameras on the 8 and X rival the rx100 pretty well, to the point where I would no longer recommend the rx if you have either of those phones.
I hope you enjoyed this little photo tour of a really cool place. We will be back with a regular Disney related post soon. Thanks for reading!
